Balkan bike trip
2024 - The Transdinarca is an off-road ride through the West-Balkan. The first part of this graveltrip passes through Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania. Starting in the former Olympic winter games city of Sarajevo, the track follows dirt roads to Durmitor N.P., then follows the steep winding "serpent" road in Montenegro and finally descends towards to Tirana. This mountaineous track stays below 2000 m so you can still enjoy the shade of the tree leaves above you.

HIGHLIGHTS ALONG THE TRIP
Sarajevo - Piva N.P. - Durmitor N.P. - Leqet e Hotit - Shkoder - Tirana
BEST TIME
Two months before and after summer - June > august - is the best ridable periode. Temperature rise up to 25°C and feel comfortable when going at altitude of 1.500 m. We had 2 days with rain on 6 days especially in the mountains.
CAMPING
As there is a lot of forest surrounding you during the trip, you have plenty of wild camping opportunities. You cross a village at least every 25 km where you can look for a room if you need to shelter from heavy rains. Along the way you can find waterpoints.
SUPPLIES
You follow river beds and ride on steep slopes, so water is to be found nearby the track. Bigger cities accept cards but small communities only accept local cash. The local bars offer basic food, supermarkets to be found in every village and are open between 08:00 and 18:00..
